Steve Cooper, 44, left Forest in December 2023 and hasn’t had a job since.

From the beginning of June, when Enzo Maresca left for Chelsea, the Foxes have been looking for a new manager.

After Leicester was relegated in 2022–23, Maresca led the team to victory in the Championship and an early return to the Premier League. Maresca joined Leicester in the beginning of the previous season.
“I am really excited and proud to be appointed Leicester City’s first-team manager,” said Cooper.

“This is a fantastic club with a rich history and passionate supporters. I am excited to work with such a talented squad and I’m looking forward to the challenge of achieving our shared ambitions in the Premier league.”

Maresca’s decision to quit Leicester after the team won the Championship disappointed them.

Carlos Corberan, the manager of West Brom, was one of the replacements that the Foxes contemplated.

Cooper gives the Foxes Premier League experience; after Forest’s 2022 promotion, he finished 16th, which allowed Forest to remain in the top division.

Despite being well-liked by Forest supporters, he was fired halfway through the previous campaign, with the team sitting 17th in the standings.

In addition to winning the 2017 World Cup with England’s Under-17 team, the former Forest manager spent two years leading Swansea to the 2021 Championship play-off final, where they were defeated by Brentford.
The Premier League match between Leicester and Tottenham on August 19 will mark Cooper’s first competitive match in charge.
