Barcelona has announced that Oriol Romeu has been re-signed from Girona in a deal worth £7 million.

The deal came as a surprise, as it wasn’t expected that Barcelona would sign Romeu, who is 31 years old.

Romeu left Barcelona in 2011 to join Chelsea but struggled to cement his place in midfield for the London club. He then moves to Southhampton, where he has enough playing time before heading back to Spain to play for Girona.

The Catalan club has officially announced that they have signed their former player to a £7 million contract through 2027.

The club is attempting to replace the legendary midfielder Sergio Busquets, who left the team at the end of the last campaign.

Romeu has now joined summer signings like Ilkay Gundogan, Vitor Roque, and Inigo Martinez.
