Ten-Hag signs new two year United deal

The Dutchman’s prior contract was set to expire in 2025 and was signed upon his appointment in 2022.

Ten Hag won two trophies at Old Trafford in his two years since joining United from Ajax.

“I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together,” said the 54-year-old.

“Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined.”

“We must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead,” Ten Hag emphasized.

Ten Hag’s first season at the club saw United finish third in the Premier League. The Dutchman’s triumph over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final broke the team’s six-year trophy drought.

However, the Dutchman’s second season was far more challenging as United advanced out of the Champions League group stages and ended ninth in the Premier League.

Ten Hag’s employment depended heavily on his team’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May.

After winning at Wembley, the team, guided by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe after his involvement in December of last year, reviewed their season-long performance.
United contacted Ten Hag’s possible replacements during the evaluation process. Still, in the end, it was determined that the Dutchman should be allowed to continue working under the new, enhanced framework.

Since acquiring a 27.7% stake in the team, Ratcliffe has completely redesigned the board structure.

Dan Ashworth, Sir Dave Brailsford, Omar Berrada, and Jason Wilcox joined in key roles.
